Super Mario Galaxy Film Trailer Is Here, Introducing Rosalina and Bowser Jr. Voice Cast
Nintendo alongside Illumination shared the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. The reveal happened in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will propel Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. There, he will encounter a different royal figure and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Iconic Releases
Similar to the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will depart from the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. On his epic voyage, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, including the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
But it appears Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Come Back and Grow
The film will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. It was announced by the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is scheduled to arrive close to the 40th anniversary of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 looks set to be a significant year for Mario and his companions.
Nintendo has a trio of new releases officially announced for the upcoming year, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Launch Date Set
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
