New England Match Best Winning Streak From Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has recorded five TDs during the current campaign
New England equaled their best victory streak since the Tom Brady period as they defeated division rivals the Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three scores as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since star signal-caller Tom Brady's final season with the franchise in 2019
Quarterback Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
Victory extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had gone in front at Gillette Stadium with QB Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' initial series
But the home team responded in the second period as Henderson scored two short rushing scores before the running back hauled in a throw from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to extend the lead to 21-7
"It was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," Maye commented on the rookie. "He wants to be great."
Justin Fields found John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Borregales converted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots closed out the win
