Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in communication with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.

Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
