A female indicted with pursuing Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a voicemail message which posed: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has repeatedly declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February 2025.

On Monday, the tribunal heard communication data and information retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test during that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most covered missing child cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

One phone message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm heavy and plain like Madeleine had been, but I know what I believe."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail said: "Suppose there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Isn't that significant for you?"

"I do not need money, I have a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," she added.

The panel was informed that via emails, text messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent youth pictures to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with the police force who compiled the data, informed the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally communicated with family friends of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.

On that date, Mr McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."

That day Ms Wandelt deposited a message on Mrs McCann's recording stating "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court heard Mrs Spragg established a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a trip to the McCanns' home in that area in December 2024.

Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to express the media had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be treated respectfully in the months leading up to the visit to the village, that area, in December 2024.

The court was told communications between the two defendants, in last November, considering attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from utensils at a dining venue.

"We have to take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the trip to their home, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which said: "We're currently sat near the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark like investigators. I desired to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
